Since the beginning of time, women everywhere have expressed themselves through fashion. Mala by Coral was founded over 20 years ago by Puerto Rican jewelry designer Coral Fontanes, with the dream of creating pieces that feel meaningful, stylish, and uniquely personal.

The name Mala has a special story—it means “necklace” in gypsy culture, and it also refers to the traditional Buddhist necklace of 109 beads used for meditation. Both meanings reflect the heart of our brand: jewelry that carries beauty, history, and intention.

What began with inspiration from gypsy culture has grown into a collection influenced by many traditions, always with a touch of the ocean and nature from our island home. Our philosophy is simple: “Anything Goes.” You can layer two or more necklaces for a playful, bohemian look, or wear one alone as your everyday favorite.

We love using talismans, charms, and natural stones believed to bring luck and protection. Our materials include semi-precious stones, crystals, metals, and hand-sculpted polymer clay. Every clay piece is designed and handmade with care, making each one truly unique, one-of-a-kind, and special—just like the women who wear them.
